Our trainers deliver cutting-edge construction industry training to new apprentices, pre-apprentices, registered apprentices, and LiUNA members every year.

To ensure that curriculum content is up-to-date, training is conducted by sector-specific professionals who are contracted for the duration of the course and who return to their respective positions in the construction industry when training is complete.

The purpose of this training is to promote the safe use, inspection and operation of aerial platforms or elevating work platforms and in the control of the hazards associated with the use of such equipment.  (8 hours) (3 year expiry)

It is important that workers involved with hoisting and rigging activities are trained in both safety and operating procedures. Hoisting equipment should be operated only by trained personnel. The cause of rigging accidents can often be traced to a lack of knowledge on the part of a rigger. Training programs such as LIUNA Hoisting and Rigging, provide workers with a basic knowledge of principles relating to safe hoisting and rigging practices in the construction industry, as well as load calculations, hand signals and inspections. (40 hours) We can also provide an awareness course that is an (8 hour) course. (3 year expiry)

The methods and advice used in this course have been proven to help laborers and field personnel transition to leadership roles and help improve those who are already foreman. (40 hours) (no expiry)

The safe operation of forklifts is critical in protecting operators and other workers. The course provides participants a general understanding of the safe and efficient operation of an industrial powered lift truck. The course stresses the importance of Occupational Health and Safety as it relates to lift truck training; teaches the components and weight, stability, and speed characteristics of lift trucks; teaches about safe handling of the fuels and batteries used in lift trucks; teaches the safe operating techniques of a lift truck, and teaches how to perform a daily maintenance and safety check on a truck. This course also has a practical component with each student operating a lift truck in a safe manor. (8 hours) More practical training will be required, for new operators. (3 year expiry)

This class is designed to provide you with foundation knowledge and enough practice at reading blueprints to know how a set of blueprint drawings are put together, drawing types, the scale and the interrelationships between drawings and project information. (Done with CCW Block 1 and Block 2)

Participants will learn the purpose of an Outside Attendant as well as their duties and responsibilities during confined space entries and the importance of outside attendant relief.  What to do in case of an emergency and the role the vicinity person plays in the entry.   They will look at confined space entry permits and the content on them. The importance of an entry log and pre-entry atmospheric testing, as well as continuous or periodically testing.  What equipment is needed before any entry is allowed.  How to perform a hazard assessment before any entry.  Review of NB regulations and CSA standards. Review any site specific requirements.   (6-7 hours) (3 year expiry)

Every year in North America there are many people who die in confined spaces due to oxygen deficiencies, explosive atmospheres, and toxic gases and vapors. The only way to really ensure that a confined space is safe to enter is to test the space. There are many gas detectors designed for the detection and measurement of potentially life threatening atmospheric conditions. In this training you will learn the importance t of pre entry testing and how to interpret the reading. (8 hours) (3 year expiry)

Mason tenders assist masons by stocking supplies, building scaffolding and mixing mortars. They do not lay bricks but can cut brick or stone and do general cleanup. Their duties may include stacking bricks on scaffolding, mixing mortar, cutting bricks, and helping to clean or point mortar joints. Mason tenders are employed on residential, commercial, industrial and civil engineering projects. (Done with CCW Block 1 and Block 2)

This course will cover the general process of installing a transmission pipeline, focusing on the work performed by Construction Craft Laborers. (Done with CCW Block 1 and Block 2)

This respiratory protection safety course is designed to help protect workers from the effects of airborne hazardous substances in the workplace. This course will help workers to identify the hazards of airborne contaminants; identify and use appropriate respiratory protection; recognize the limitations and capabilities of respirators in our workplace; and inspect, maintain, and store respirators. Also, the workers will be fit tested for the proper size respirator and shown how to perform a negative and positive seal check.

This course was designed to cover the duties of the workers with respect to fresh air equipment.  Participants will be given time in the classroom to cover materials on both SCBA’s and SABA’s and answer questions. All types of fresh air systems can be used depending on the Contractor requirements.  A qualitative fit-test using a Portacount machine determines proper mask size and user’s ability to don and doff the mask. The practical portion of this training has the worker hooking up to the air-supply and how the equipment operates, using both Scott SCBA’s and air cart system.  The instructor will also identify and ensure an understanding of the steps to follow in an emergency.

This course is geared towards training labourers who are responsible for confined space entry rescue with the addition of working in hazardous situations; utilize a variety of rescue equipment used in high angle rescue and work related to confined space. The course covers the required NFPA certification training elements as well as a practical component for demonstration of knowledge learned in the classroom. (40 hours first time/24 hour refresher, each year)

This program is designed to provide participants with the skills required for safe, effective, and reliable methods of rescuing trapped or injured persons from elevated structures or areas of difficult access. This course will show safe techniques of technical rope rescue. Participants will learn knowledge and skills through a combination of presentations, demonstrations, and individual and team exercise. Prior to this training, the member has to have passed the confined space rescue, have fall protection, confined space awareness and be recommended by the instructor.  ( 64 hours/ 32 – 40 hour yearly refresher)

Any member wishing to take Confined Space or High Angle Rescue is required to pass a par test every two years to make sure they are in good physical condition to be able to perform a rescue if required. LTINB uses an outside company that is certified to administer this type of testing so that there is no conflict. If the member does not pass the par test, and want to continue or try the rescue training again, they are required to improve their condition, so that they can get a passing mark, to be registered into this training. (every 2 years)

This Fire Watch training course will give you a working knowledge and proficiency in performing fire watch duties and using fire extinguishing equipment. This course will include both classroom instruction and practical training.  You’ll be required to successfully demonstrate the safe activation, use and technique of using an extinguisher to put out a controlled fire. (8 hour) (3 year expiry)

This induction training provides persons entering the construction industry with the basic knowledge off common hazard, risks, emergency procedures, incident reporting and how they should be controlled.  This training also cover basic construction tools and equipment that you may be required to use on construction sites. (Done with CCW Block 1 and Block 2)

Participants in this training will learn how to read foundation and slab layout plans, lay a slab & foundation, set & level forms, tie rebar & lay screening, mix & pour concrete, tamp concrete, finish the slab using a variety of tools, and the proper removal of forms. (Done with CCW Block 1 and Block 2)

This course is designed to give participants the theoretical and practical skills required to safely install Area Scaffolds using Frame, Tube/Clamp and System components. (Done with CCW Block 1 and Block 2)

This asbestos Abatement course is designed to allow participants to work in all categories of asbestos abatement work environments. This course will provide the participants with a detailed understanding of the practical aspects involved in the effective control/removal of asbestos containing materials, both friable and non-friable, in structures and other industry environments. (40 hour) (3 year expiry)

This training delivers instruction on microbial life forms (Viruses, Bacteria and Fungi), with a focus on mold.  Our Mold Awareness Course also trains in recognizing the properties of mold, describing sick building syndrome, recognizing sampling methods for the presence of mold and health effects brought on by presence of mold, identifying precautions to take when in the vicinity of mold and preventing water from intruding on a variety of materials. In our course, you will discuss how mold exposures have a variety of health effects depending on the person. Some people are more sensitive to mold than others. Exposure to mold can cause a number of health issues such as; throat irritation, nasal stuffiness, eye irritation, cough, and wheezing, as well as skin irritation in some cases. Modules include: Introduction to Microbial Training, Sick Buildings, Recognizing Mold, Health Effects Associated with Mold Exposure, Worker Precautions, Water Intrusion and Mold Prevention.

Telehandlers are a Class VII (7) Rough Terrain Forklift, our course is designed to provide participants the ability to recognize hazards associated with the equipment and the environment in which it is operated, as well as the safe operating principles pertaining to safe operation of the equipment. (8 hours) More practical training will be required, for new operators. (3 year expiry)

This course is intended for experienced as well as new operators requiring certification in order to meet their legislative requirements. The focus of the program is to ensure the operator understands the basic knowledge and skills necessary to operate the skid steer loader in a safe manner. In addition to the theory portion, this course offers practical experience using the skid steer loader. . (8 hours) More practical training will be required, for new operators. (3 year expiry)

This Irving Refinery course is a requirement to be able to perform the duties of Outside Attendant on this site.  The Ventis MX 4 is a portable gas monitor capable of continuously and simultaneously monitoring 4 standard gases well work is being carried out. (refinery course, 1 year expiry)

We have recently started making it mandatory to take a Man Watch refresher the same day as the Refinery Ventis MX4 training that holds a one year expiry. This course covers the same materials as the full Man Watch training and any member wishing to take the Ventis training, also has to take this refresher. (1 year expiry)

This is a 40 hour class and prepares members to write the CCW Red Seal exam.  The first four days of this program, will be covering materials that may be seen on the exam and on the fifth day, PETL, Apprenticeship & Occupational Certification will be scheduled to administer the four hour exam right at our training center. Before this class is run, we need to have a minimum of 8 – 12 members registered, and the provincial fees paid. (once the fees are paid the member will receive our upgrading manual, to read over before the week long training)

This is a ten week program, and the list of training covered are under the New Brunswick Post – Secondary Education and labour. At the completion of this program, the apprentice will write the provincial CCW Block 1 exam and then will be put to work by Local 900, to develop the skill they have learned in the block.

This is an eight week program, and the list of training covered are under the New Brunswick Post – Secondary Education and labour. At the completion of this program, the apprentice will write the provincial CCW Block 2 exam and then will be put to work by Local 900, to develop the skill they have learned in the block.

This course provides instruction to become a highway or construction site signaler in the Province of NB. This course is accepted by the DTI and WorkSafe NB as it meets their Traffic Control Person requirements. (4 hours)

This course is an introduction to the hazards of trenching and excavation. This informative course will help workers identify trenching hazards and recognize the protection required.  This course is ideal for any employee working around or in an excavation/trench. (8 hours)

This course provides instruction for workers in the basics of fall protection, including how to conduct proper hazard assessments and the basics of personal fall arrest systems. The focus of this course is proper usage, regulation awareness and compliance. (8hours)

This course provides an understanding of the hazards related to working in a confined space environment. The course looks at the proper safe work practices and procedures for confined spaces as well as rescue considerations. The course meets the minimum requirements for workers and supervisors who enter into confined space areas.  Federal and provincial regulations are examined. (16 hours)

This course study introduces workers to the new WHMIS 2015 for the safe use of control products and hazardous materials in the workplace. Instruction for understanding labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and worker education will alert workers to the potential hazards of controlled products. (4 hours)

This course study introduces workers on their rights and responsibilities according to the guidelines of the NB OH&S Act. Instruction concentrates on topics including joint occupational health and safety committees, personal protective equipment, accident reporting, awareness, electrical hazards, and safety rules and regulations. (4 hours)

This course is general awareness of Lockout Regulations as per the New Brunswick Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations. (4 hours)
